There is significant community concern about the impacts of Coal Seam Gas (CSG) development on groundwater. CSG Online is an independent groundwater monitoring network consisting of both private water bores and government owned bores continuously monitored using telemetry data loggers to collect time series groundwater level data. The bores have been specifically selected to monitor any local impacts from CSG development on landholder bores as well as to verify CSG company monitoring results.
This is a new project that is just commencing. From now to 2017 the network will be increased incrementally, as the CSG footprint expands, to ensure that an appropriate level of monitoring is undertaken. CSG Online will be supported by another new project CSG Net, where landholders will be engaged in groups and encouraged to monitor their bores and provide the data for storage in the department’s database. Data from both projects will be openly accessible through the CSG Globe. The implementation of these projects will ensure that an improved and transparent groundwater monitoring framework is in place to protect landholder interests.
